The Utah Office of Energy Development (OED) is seeking enthusiastic
STEM Outreach Specialists to assist with energy education events throughout the state.

What you will do
- Facilitate hands-on learning by leading and guiding participants through educational activities at local elementary, middle, high school and community events.
- Engage with the community by directly interacting with students, parents, and community members to discuss energy, Utah’s “all-of-the-above” energy policy, and the future energy workforce.
- Simplify complex concepts for younger audiences in engaging and exciting ways.
- Support with preparing, organizing, and assembling educational kits and materials for STEM events.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be a U.S. citizen (per State of Utah employment requirements).
Ideal candidates
- Experience in outreach, education, STEM, or energy OR demonstrate interest in learning and communicating about the topics.

- Schedule
- This position is considered “on-call”, meaning the schedule will not be consistent.
- There may be weeks with several events and some with very few.
- Our goal is to provide 1-2 weeks’ notice for events.
- Hours
- Events typically occur Monday –Thursday within 3:00 – 10:00 p.m and usually last roughly 2-4 hours.
- Some events on Saturdays, pending specialist availability.
- Most events occur in the Salt Lake and Utah County valleys. Events occurring in more rural areas may include travel time.
- Daytime Availability: While evening availability is required, please note if you are also available for any daytime events, as we may be traveling to classrooms to present materials during the school day.
- Pay
- $20 an hour, with a limit of no more than 40 hours worked in a two-week period.
- Hiring Goal
- We are looking to hire 6-8 specialists to begin in January 2026.
