Alternative Transportation
SAY GOODBYE TO RANGE ANXIETY IN YOUR ELECTRIC VEHICLE
Experience a seamless EV driving experience in Utah. Because of partnerships throughout the state and across the Western U.S., getting to your destination in an EV is easier than it’s ever been.
Whether you’re planning a trip to Moab, getting ready to experience beautiful Cache Valley or heading to the heart of Salt Lake City, an EV can get you there.
EV CHARGING IN UTAH
Utah’s growing charger infrastructure is enabling longer trips throughout the state than ever before. Millions of dollars have been invested into the EV infrastructure and it will continue to grow moving forward.
Learn More About Electric Vehicles
Why Drive an EV?
EVs use electric motors that are powered by onboard batteries and those onboard batteries are recharged by plugging in to an external electricity source.
Emissions from mobile sources are the largest contributor to poor air quality along the Wasatch Front. Zero emissions vehicles like EVs drastically reduce emissions and in turn dramatically improve air quality.
With an EV you can forget about oil changes and fluctuating gas prices. The charging rate of an EV is equivalent to a gas price of $1.01/gallon. Better for the environment and better for your wallet.
Creating new partnerships and opportunities to advance alternative transportation.
We support fuel diversity and are creating ways to accelerate the adoption of alternative transportation. Alternative transportation helps grow Utah’s economy and high standard of living, while also enhancing our air quality.
By increasing public awareness, building essential infrastructure and expanding available options, we can continue to develop alternative transportation in Utah.
REV West
Gov. Gary Herbert along with the governors of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming signed an agreement in December 2019 focused on electrical vehicle development in our region.
Alternative Fuel Vehicles and Emergency Plans
Together with the National Association of State Energy Officials, we have released a report on the Initiative of Resilience in Energy through Vehicles (iREV). The report describes how alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) can be integrated with emergency planning efforts, along with highlighting alternative fuels available, operational alternative-fueled fleets and suggestions for using AFVs to enhance emergency planning efforts.
$50 Million in Infrastructure Investment
In 2020, HB 396 authorized Rocky Mountain Power to invest up to $50 million for EV charging infrastructure across the state. Those changes would come after input and discussions with state and community organizations.
